We squeaked into the city on Thursday night just ahead of the remnants of not-so-hurricanish Andrea. For as many times as we’ve visited NYC in the last few years, we still crane our necks during the taxi ride from the airport for that first glimpse of the Chrysler Building. Tourists forever!
Friday was one of many “rain days” this trip. I guess “real” New Yorkers can walk around with puddle water in their shoes til the cows come home, but we are not so hardy. We watched the tree branches flail in the storm outside the window as we ate dinner at Nougatine that night and checked the weather forecast: rain, rain and more rain!
Things cleared up enough the next day for Angie, Thomas and I to have have lunch and walk down Broadway to see Matilda. Awesome play and not just for kids! Ang and I agreed that we would both happily see it again.
On Sunday we were so happy to visit with young friends Lauren and Ethan. They joined us and Christine and Taylor for the UWS Redeemer service and then we all had dinner together at Isabella’s.
It didn’t dare rain on 6/11 because that was Daniel’s birthday! How can he possibly be 23?
We had a family dinner at Scarpetta to celebrate – it’s such a lucky time for us to have both boys in the city!
We closed out our first week in the city with a night at the ballet. Taylor was busy with a class, so Christine’s +1 that evening was her friend, Chase. Neither had been to the ballet before so we really enjoyed taking them to see ABT’s Romeo and Juliet.
More bad weather was headed our way, so we sent Christine off with an umbrella that night and hunkered down to wait for the storm clouds to pass. Rain or shine, we were happy to be in the city!
