We finished up our East Coast trip with a too-short stay in NYC. Sometimes the city feels empty in July and August, but this year it was bustling, despite the heat.
We saw Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in Uncle Vanya – Blanchett is possibly even more luminous and gazelle-like on stage than she is on screen. We also saw Peter and the Starcatcher, which, despite its Tony awards, failed to enchant us. But One Man, Two Guvnors more than made up for Peter’s failings: James Corden is knee-slappingly, tears-running-down-the-face talented.
We had a few good meals, of course; took a walk on the High Line; got drenched in a rainstorm, and walked, walked walked around the city and through the Park. Loved every minute of it.
This trip also had a different feel since there were no sightings of Daniel, who was away on his Grand Tour of Europe. And the biggest change of all: Thomas and James and their parents have moved up the road a bit. For details, see the next post…
