A last look at NYC…

We finished up our East Coast trip with a too-short stay in NYC. Sometimes the city feels empty in July and August, but this year it was bustling, despite the heat.

We saw Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in Uncle Vanya – Blanchett is possibly even more luminous and gazelle-like on stage than she is on screen. We also saw Peter and the Starcatcher, which, despite its Tony awards, failed to enchant us. But One Man, Two Guvnors more than made up for Peter’s failings: James Corden is knee-slappingly, tears-running-down-the-face talented.

We had a few good meals, of course; took a walk on the High Line; got drenched in a rainstorm, and walked, walked walked around the city and through the Park.  Loved every minute of it.

We’re not “home” in NYC until we have pizza at Cafe Fiorello (polloplayer image)

One57 continues its monolithic rise over CPS, although we’ve heard there’s already a taller tower slated to go up on Park Ave. (polloplayer image)

This trip also had a different feel since there were no sightings of Daniel, who was away on his Grand Tour of Europe. And the biggest change of all: Thomas and James and their parents have moved up the road a bit. For details, see the next post…

Great classic NYC pics… Love all those dogs! As always, your food pics make me so hungry. I want that pizza right now!
And I must know…did Dad get a fried Oreo??

Too funny – I apparently live in your wake. We’re off to NYC on Tuesday and seeing “One Man, Two Guvrns” and then I’m sending Dan off to see “Peter and the Starcatcher” with a couple of friends because it did not seem interesting to me… And, of course, I will spend much time at the Central-dog-Park. It’s what I do when I miss my dog. (It’s really rather pathetic, but don’t tell me…)

CP is my favorite place on earth! Love pics.

CE here: Chicken Lady’s photos make me want to hurry back there in order not to miss any of the great city’s offerings. Just for the record, the fried oreos did not make it on our menu last trip; even I have my standards.
