Fountain of Youth

I don’t know how we got so lucky as to have so many young friends.  Last night we had a “youngs only” group over for dinner – we were the only doddering oldsters present. We were secretly hoping to osmose some of their youth, which, judging from a glance at the mirror this morning was completely unsuccessful,  but at least we had the chance to introduce them all to one another and celebrate the joy of having them all in our lives.

Ashleigh outdid herself once again with a charred corn salad, baked beans from scratch, lots of veggies for the non-carnivores in the group and a yummy strawberry-rhubarb crisp for dessert. The CE tended to the tri-tip and the weather was glorious – it was a perfect evening!

Strawberry-rhubarb crisp: hello summer!

Of course, it always somehow ends up being all about the dogs. Julia and Grant’s puppy, Henry, was the star of the show, running exuberant circles around the lawn and getting to know Chloe and Soho. I was trying not to be too invasive with the camera so the photos aren’t great, but you’ll get the idea:

Grant and Henry

Rebecca and Tom

Carly and Loren (Sorry, I caught him in mid-sentence)

Victoria, Henry and Julia

Andy and Alexandra

Getting to know you: Henry and Chloe observe each other from a safe distance

But by the end of the evening they were dogs’ best friends

Fun group!

Such a great evening and a lovely way to kick off the holiday. Happy Fourth, everyone!

Party pooped: Soho was tuckered out by the time the evening ended

CE here: It was very fun to see the youthful vigor of the many dear young people exceeded only by that of Henry, the floppy eared goat-dog. Lots of fun and fantastic food by Ashleigh. Thanks to all for coming!
