The plot thickens.

Another egg hunt today. Amelia – or at least I think it’s Amelia – once again started out on the nesting counter but ultimately deposited her egg outside in the pen. Not ideal, because if the egg sits there long enough for the girls to get curious about it, they could peck it open and become – terrors! – dreaded egg-eaters! Once hens develop a taste for eggs, it can spell the end of egg-gathering for the humans. Hope also laid again today, so that’s two eggs each, yesterday and today:

Amelia's egg is on the left, slightly darker brown and smaller than Hope's

Amelia’s eggs are currently a bit smaller than Hope’s, but they will probably get bigger in time.

No surprise that Victoria is baking quiches for us today…

how do you get them to lay in the nesting area? is it their instinct, or do you have to try and coax them in there? i hope amelia learns her lesson…
