Chickens, chickens, everywhere

Another front page chicken story today. This time in the Santa Barbara News-Press. An upscale purveyor of furniture in downtown Santa Barbara (a bit of Googling led to the info that actress Mary Steenburgen is a partner in this business venture) has made the paper by adding a small coop and four Buff Orpingtons on the premises of their store, “Rooms and Gardens”.  I found the following photos at www.shedstyle.com

On the other side of town, FOB (friend of blog) Katherine found chickens crossing the road in front of her car when she headed out to do errands this morning. She quite thoughtfully took a picture to document the event, but, alas, WordPress does not support the format, so you’ll have to take my word for it that it really happened. And, back here at Chez Poulet, our four girls were stunned into silence when I put a few apples in their pen this morning. I’d read that most people’s chickens love apples; mine, however, reacted as though UFO’s had just landed in their midst. They gathered briefly to confront the dire event, then fled to the safety of the coop.

Autumn, Lily and Amelia consider the apples while Hope hides in the coop.

After they spent a half hour in the coop, I finally cut the apples into small pieces for them and they deigned to come outside again. Someone has someone well trained…

That Autumn is a beauty. I noticed her eyes nicely coordinate with her feathers in an earlier photo!!!! Could you send me Daniel’s address at Columbia?

It was nice to catch up on all of the Coop goings-on. I have been out of the Coop……..Loop for the past couple of weeks. Got NYC construction details on my mind so no time to properly consider the important things in life, like the Scary Apples. Promising to mend my ways in the future………
